HEIN VAN DEN HEUVEL

As founder, Hein van den Heuvel laid the basis for the present-day Patentwerk BV in 1998. The particular focus of his own practice is production machines in numerous areas such as chip manufacture, the animal slaughter industry and food processing. Hein also has extensive experience in international and national patent conflicts, valuation of patent portfolios and oppositions at the European Patent Office.

Hein studied mechanical engineering and industrial business administration at the Eindhoven University of Technology with specialization in technical production systems. Following military service in the Dutch Royal Navy he worked for some years at Philips Lighting on the structuring of production processes.

Hein has worked as patent attorney since 1992, became a registered Dutch patent attorney in 1995 and qualified as European patent attorney in 1996. In 1998 Hein began a new IP firm which has as its mission to provide high-quality service, with particular emphasis on the interests of the client.

BAS LANGENHUIJSEN

Bas Langenhuijsen is a registered Dutch and European patent attorney and has a degree in chemical process technology from the Eindhoven University of Technology. As patent attorney Bas has gained wide experience over the past years in various patent law disciplines.

Bas is involved in patent-related activities in the fields of chemistry, chemical technology and mechanical engineering. His primary focus is on the whole process from drawing up patent applications to obtaining grant of patent, and maintaining patent rights. Bas advises clients in the development, management and valuation of intellectual property portfolios and gives advice on validity and infringement. He represents clients varying from individual inventors to larger multinationals.

BRAM VAN OEFFELT

Bram van Oeffelt studied electrical engineering at the Delft University of Technology and graduated in 1998 with specialization in power transmission engineering. He then worked for six years in the ICT sector. He began training as a patent attorney in 2005 and became a registered Dutch and European patent attorney in 2008.

Bram focuses on drawing up patent applications and maintaining patent rights in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and information technology.

PIETER EVELEENS MAARSE

Pieter Eveleens Maarse has been with Patentwerk since 2004. He represents clients in the particular fields of electrical engineering, optics, medical technology and packagings. Pieter studied electronics at the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht. Following his military service he studied electrical engineering with specialization in heavy current at the Delft University of Technology. He worked for a manufacturer of electrical drives and in 1983 he began training as patent attorney. He now has more than 20 years experience as patent attorney. He is a registered Dutch, Belgian and European patent attorney.

OLAF S. ROELANDS

Olaf Roelands is an experienced Dutch and European patent attorney and has been with Patentwerk since March 2014. Before this he had an independent practice in the Netherlands for more than 12 years and represented a wide range of clients. In 2008 he also lived and worked for a year in Munich. Olaf has a degree in chemistry from the University of Utrecht.

Olaf provides technological advice on inventions in the fields of chemical and mechanical engineering. His expertise ranges from pharmaceutical products to hydraulic equipment. Areas such as medical technology and synthetic products are also familiar territory for him.

Olaf has extensive experience in creating intellectual property rights and in advance assessment of the potential value of such rights.

From the reverse perspective he regularly assists his clients in making a proper evaluation of the patent positions of others and, if necessary, taking action against them.

LUC SMEETS

Luc Smeets studied pharmaceutical science at the Free University of Amsterdam and graduated in 2007 with specialization in the commercialization of pharmaceutical scientific research. He then worked for more than four years in the patent department of an internationally operating Dutch pharmaceutical company.

Luc has been with Patentwerk since the beginning of 2012 and, as registered Dutch and European patent attorney, is involved in patent-related activities mainly in the fields of life sciences, biotechnology and pharmacy.

DAAN SETTELS

Daan Settels studied biomedical technology at Eindhoven University of Technology and graduated at the end of 2010 with specialization in contrast agents for use in MRI. He has been a Dutch patent attorney since the end of 2014.

MIEW-WOEN J.B. SJAUW EN WA

Miew-Woen is a registered Dutch patent attorney and works as consultant for Patentwerk. Since completing his degree in bioprocess technology at the University of Wageningen in 1998, he has gained wide experience in patent-related matters. He began his career in the patent department of a Dutch multinational specialized in the production and sale of foods. Miew-Woen then worked for several years as patent attorney with an IP firm.

In 2009 he worked as consultant for the Dutch intellectual property section of an international firm of lawyers. He employs his knowledge and experience not only to write patent applications and obtain grant of patent, but also to give advice concerning infringement questions. He has in addition been involved in various patent law cases at the District Court of The Hague. In his daily practice Miew-Woen deals with cases mainly in the fields of the life sciences, biotechnology and pharmacy.

BASTIAAN HOEBEN

Bastiaan Hoeben studied aeronautical and aerospace engineering at the Delft University of Technology where he graduated at the beginning of 2014 in the specialization of unmanned cargo aircraft. He combined this study with a course in psychology at the University of Leiden. For his Masters degree in this latter course he specialized in social and organizational psychology. He has been with Patentwerk as trainee patent attorney since the end of 2014.
